5 Tips To Make Your Instagram Looks Cohesive.

Updated: May 25, 2020

I always get this question from my followers, How does your instagram look so put together and have the same theme? What kind of app or filter do you use for your pictures?

So today I decided to share with you guys my top 5 secrets to a cohesive and a beautiful looking feed that attracts your followers.

1.Take a picture of the same view in Portrait mode and in a Normal mode.

You don't need to buy an expensive camera to take good pictures.

Most of us these days carry smart phones and whatever kind of smart phone you have, it definitely has camera that takes pictures with good quality. But also most of us rarely use the portrait mode that comes with your phone's camera, which is such a waste.

The portrait mode gives you the opportunity to focus on a specific part of your picture, while the rest of the picture is a little blurry or unfocused, which catches your eyes to focus on this specific detail in the picture. On the other hand, the normal mode gives you the whole picture without focusing on any thing, as if this picture is a whole one big thing, so when you look it, you may feel lost because your eyes are looking at the picture without giving attention to the little details.

Also if your phone doesn't have a portrait feature, you can download one of these apps to help you; AirBrush, Snapseed, Afterfocus and LightX.

2.Sit, Stand and Use a step stool to take the same picture.

Yes it's as exactly as you read it.

Use different positions to take the same picture, try sitting down on a chair, standing up, standing on a step stool or on your bed, or even laying down on the floor.

Try so many different ways to capture the same picture from different directions, and every picture will have its own charm and point of attraction.

After you are done, look through all the pictures you just took and choose the ones you love the most to represent your feed.

3.Depend mainly on Natural light more than Fake light.

Try your best to take all your picture when you have enough natural light in your room. Your room may get the best light in the morning or in the evening before sun sets, it doesn't matter when, What really matters is the more natural light you use, the more fresh and organic your pictures will look.

Don't get me wrong, using specific lightenings have their great effect and no one can deny how important they are, But when you choose to take a picture for your instagram feed, people tend to love natural and airy pictures more.

Unless you are taking the picture on purpose at night to give some cozy vibes For example; If you want to take a picture of a bubble bath surrounded by candles, it's better to take it at night or a picture of cozy movie night with your family around the fire place,..etc.

I think you got my point, right?!

Natural Light. Fake Light.

4.Use the same Edits, Presets and Apps for every picture you post.

There are so many Apps out there to edit pictures and I personally have few favorites that I love and I will share them with you. But whatever App you use or whatever edit you like or preset that you prefer, you have to use them to edit your pictures EVERY SINGLE TIME before you post them on your feed.

People tend to follow feeds that attract their eyes and give them this cohesive and cozy feeling, but if they follow someone's feed that seems to be unorganized or doesn't have a theme or story to tell, they will go ahead and Unfollow that feed.

You don't want to be one of these accounts,So choose wisely before you post your pictures and before you choose a theme that you will use repeatedly in all your posts.

Some of my favourite Apps that I personally use to edit my pictures and videos are: Snapseed, Lightroom, Colorstory, Foodie, Tezza and Hyperlapse.

You can even choose to use a variety of Apps to edit the same picture, but again make sure you remember exactly what did you use, so you can repeat the exact steps each time you want to post a picture on your feed.

Different picture in Different spaces but using THE EXACT SAME EDIT.

5.Edit the Shadows and the highlights in your picture.

Last but not least, don't forget to edit the dark areas in your picture with the effect called

"Shadow" and the very bright areas too with the effect "Highlight".

These two effects are in almost all the photo edit Apps, even Instagram itself is giving you these two edits before you post any picture, So pleases take advantage of this and use them. Just play with these two effects until you are satisfied with the lightening and you can't really see any obvious dark spots or light spots in your picture.
